Wine/Cheese Pairing 1
I did a wine and cheese pairing with my friends Hannah and Katelin! We brought three very different wines: White Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It was a lot of fun!
This is a picture of me, Katelin and Hannah with our different wines!
The first wine we tried was a Beringer, White Zinfandel. The year was not listed. It is from Napa, California. According the back of the bottle, it's flavor is a "Fresh red berry, citrus and melon flavors accented by subtle hints of stone fruit and violets." To me this wine was a semi-dry wine with a red berry, honeydew melon and honey smell. It had a very refreshing taste of strawberries and honeydew. The first and second sip we tried without cheese but then we tried it with Swiss cheese. It was absolutely disgusting. There was a strong aftertaste of the cheese after we drank the wine and the flavors clashed and did not blend well.
The second wine we tried was also a Beringer. It was a Chardonnay also from Napa, California. The flavor of this wine is apparently an "Enticing blend of ripe stone fruit and vivid citrus flavors. The bright citrus perfectly offsets the honeyed apricots." To me, this wine was dry but smelled kind of sweet with a strong pear smell and a hint of honeysuckle. It tasted dry kind of like apricots. We tried this wine with parmesan and it balanced out the dryness of the Chardonnay. It absorbed the flavor of the wine but in a good way and made the wine more enjoyable.
The third wine we tried was a Black Box, Sauvignon Blanc made in 2016 in Valle Central, Chile. According to the box this wine has "Pretty floral aromas with peach notes the unfold into bright citrus flavors. A crisp and refreshing finish." There wasn't a very strong taste on the palette but you could definitely feel this wine in your throat. It had a citrusy taste with maybe a hint of grapefruit? We tasted this wine with mozzarella cheese. The fats in the cheese balanced out the acidic flavors and made it so you couldn't feel it in your throat as much. The cheese didn't really bring out any flavors in the wine and vice versa. The flavors definitely messed better than the White Zinfandel and Swiss.
