Lets Talk Wine
Growing up, I never really drank. Unless you consider taking sips of your brothers and parents drinks to mean "drinking." I thought that maybe turning 21 would change my drinking habits, but if I am being honest with myself, not much has changed. I am a big fan of trying other peoples drinks to get a feel for what I like, but I am not one to just order a drink just to have one sitting in front of me.
With that being said, wine is probably the type of alcohol that I have tasted most of. At the dinner table as a teenager, my parents usually had some type of red wine. I always tried their wine, hoping that each time I tried it, the taste might be better the next time. It never was. To me, the red wine was extremely dry. It wasn't until I tried a glass of white wine that I learned that maybe I could enjoy wine.
My family always celebrates holidays with our extended family and no matter what, there is always some sort of wine involved. Invite the neighbors over, open a bottle of wine. Neighbors just found out they're having a baby, cheers with some wine. Neighbors had their baby, celebrate with wine. Wine to me was always meant to signify some type of celebration. It was never misused or mistreated but instead enjoyed with friends and family.
It wasn't until I turned 21 that I really actually started to drink full glasses of wine myself. Like I said earlier, I discovered that I really preferred the taste of white wine to red wine. I have discovered that I really love all sweet wines, the sweeter the better; Pink Moscato, Moscato and especially White Zinfandel (my new favorite). I am also a huge fan of Sangria. Surprisingly I actually prefer red sangria over white. Go figure.
I still have so much to learn about wine: how to pour it, how to properly drink it, how to serve it, and how different wines differ from each other. I am taking this class in hopes that it will increase my palette for wine and that I will learn to actually appreciate the taste.
